24th April 2025 - Teentech Festival

Key Stage Four students took up the opportunity to attend Teentech Festival, hosted by Roehampton University.

The Limes College joined a whole host of schools at Roehampton University to explore careers and education within the technology and STEM sectors, taking part in a range of interactive and hands-on activities alongside discussions with professionals and academics alike.

The festival takes the form of three zones and students explore each one to consider their own interests and individual pathways.

In the Insight Zone, our students encountered:

  • Sustainable engineering – University of Roehampton

Students were challenged with building a stable structure using plain implements while discussing engineering as a potential future pathway.

  • Amazon Web Services

Students explored how the development of Artificial Intelligence is aiding Amazon Web Services to deliver a meaningful customer experience.

  • British Army

Students had to work together as a team to build as tall a structure as possible. This demonstrated the teamwork and problem solving skills that engineers in The British Army possess. Our students were praised for their efforts!

  • Computing Education – University of Roehampton

Our students spoke with current students from the University of Roehampton to explore university life and what study computing entails. They were incredibly impressed with the robot which had been built with the ability to solve a Rubix Cube.

  • Academy Conditioning

Students explored how technology is enhancing sports performance for professional athletes, and even participated in monitoring how high their jump performance could be. The competition was fierce amongst them all.

In the Challenge Zone, students explored coding with Softwire, using software which allowed them to progress through various levels of increasing difficulty. Students thoroughly enjoyed this task, and some made it through to the toughest Level Eight! Excellent work.

They also explored the dynamics of Green Screen Technology with one of the university’s lecturers. Trying to guess iconic landmark was being displayed behind you while everyone else was giving clues proved to be very entertaining.

To finish the day, The Limes College explored the Innovation Zone, which gave all partipants the opportunity to come up with ideas using technology that may improve society as a whole. The Limes College students came up with an excellent idea for an app to improve NHS wait times and leader of the activity were very impressed with its potential promise.

Teentech has always proven to be a highlight of our careers calendar, and the students thoroughly enjoyed their day, coming away with some thoughts about expanding their potential pathways for their futures.
