25th June 2025 - Real Estate Workplace Insight with Valor Rep
Year 10 students visited a near-complete commercial construction site to learn more about commercial real estate. The event was hosted by Valor, and New Construction.
Sean, Conor and Cyrus introduce themselves and gave descriptions of their roles within the companies. Cyrus, as a representative of the construction company, gave a health and safety induction. He explained the importance of competency and training checks which are used to ensure individuals have the basic skills and requirements to work on site. He gave students a mock site-specific induction and explained a ‘yellow and red card policy’, which construction sites implement in order to encourage health and safety.
Students were given a tour of the entire site including external and internal elements. The students explored the six units that have been built for commercial warehouse purposes. They were encouraged to keep an eye out for anything that they thought may be sustainable. Identification of construction materials took place, and they were encouraged to think of the different uses for the spaces inside and outside of the units.
Students were encouraged to think about the impact of building for commercial purposes within a residential area and we discussed the objections that residents may have had to the build. Sean explained how these were dealt with and the amendments to the build that were created as a result.
Each representative discussed their own career pathway so that students could see that for some this is not a linear process.
There was also a quiz at the end to encourage students to remember key project facts.
