BELONG, RELATIONSHIPS, MOVE ON, ACHIEVE

23rd April 2026 - Teentech Festival

Students attended Teentech Festival at Roehampton University, which has fast become an integral part of our annual programme of careers related activities.

Students started their day with a welcome from Maggie Philbin, before moving off to the Activity Zone. In this area of the festival, students are designated allotted times with innovative tech companies, which gives students the opportunity to talk to individuals about career paths and possibilities.

Our students encountered Academy Conditioning, who prepared a practical activity where students learned about how sports science and technology is used to measure fitness. The students used an electronic jump system to learn about the science behind how to measure leg power for professional sportspersons.

Their second encounter was with University College London, and this included demonstrations of how Advanced Human-Machine Interaction technologies are used. These included a Bionic Hand, Intelligent Textiles that react to your touch, and Haptic Robots that simulate surgical procedures and machinery used on the moon!

The next encounter was led by the Radar Science department of the University of Roehampton, who demonstrated people tracking with millimetre-wave radar and skeleton tracking using depth cameras.

Our final encounter in this department was with the E Sports team of the University of Roehampton, who spoke about the financial rewards of competing in E Sports for the University. They also created a VR challenge with a Formula 1 simulation for a fastest lap challenge. One of our students took the victory!

The second part of the morning was spent in the Challenge Zone. Students engaged with Rise Academy  - an educational volunteer driven media engineering charity targeting school students. The students were given the experience of making a TV broadcast from a local live news interview perspective, and took on the task of camera and sound operations during production.

Our final challenge was presented by Tilbury Douglas – a leading UK building, infrastructure, engineering and fit-out company. They provided a Lego STEM Spike challenge for students to complete. This involved building and innovating leg designs on robots, to highlight skills needed within the STEM industries.

Students thoroughly enjoyed their day, and were positive role models throughout their time there.
